Fuck Yeah, Gone With the Wind!

The Scarlett miniseries varies from the book in some frankly ridiculous ways. Seriously, some parts are just dumb. But the actress is most of the time a pretty satisfyingly sassy Scarlett. The actor playing Rhett is not unattractive. One sentence movie review: I wouldn't warn anyone NOT to see it, nor would I particularly recommend it to anyone who wouldn't want to leave with the story when it left the South.

Thanks for the tip! That’s probably good advice for the novel Scarlett as well.

I read Scarlett, and while I'm glad the book has a happy ending, I don't think it flowed with GWTW at all. It didn't have the same feel. I also see no point in watching the made-for-TV movie because it doesn't have Clark and Vivien. I don't know if there is any modern woman or man who could embody Rhett and Scarlett the way those two did. Just like nobody can write like Margaret Mitchell.

I agree! That was my main problem - it just didn’t flow like the original. And like you said, no one else will be Rhett or Scarlett, at least for me. I’ve also never seen the Scarlett movie, nor do I plan to.

I actually had the opportunity to read the sequel Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley. It continues the story where it was left in the first and after a lot of struggle and traveling to Ireland to visit her own family Scarlett goes through a huge character transformation and ends up winning Rhett back. A lot of fans of the original by Margret Mitchell won't recognize this sequel as a part of the story but I quite enjoyed it a lot.

Some of my older followers will know my personal feelings on Scarlett, but I do know many people have enjoyed it =) For people looking for that happy ending, it does its job. Thanks for sharing!

I saw your comments on "Scarlett", and I wanted to know how you felt about "Rhett Butler's People"? Also, I wanted to let you know that your blog makes me very happy. :) I have loved GWTW since I was young, and it has aged well with me. My first love was, and always will be, Rhett Butler. And I have tried to grow up with the morals of Melly and the practicality of Scarlett. Thank you for bringing a little joy into my days.

I like Rhett Butler’s People. I think it is plausible in terms of what it presents as Rhett’s back-story, but it makes Rhett more fallible, which is both good and bad. The ending gets a bit weird, but I liked it much better than Scarlett =) I’m so glad you enjoy the blog - thank you for such lovely words!

I read most of Scarlett and really did enjoy it, school got in the way, but I plan to reread/finish it over break. It's a little fanfiction like for my taste but oh so addictive. Even though I do like the way Mitchell ended it, I feel she left readers the opportunity to decide what happened to Scarlett and I like this take on it.

That is the true perfection that is that ending - you decide. I realize I am pretty tough on Scarlett around here, hehe, but I certainly have nothing against people who like it =) To each their own and I respect that. It is fun in its way; I kind of think if you want to enjoy it, you will, whereas if you aren’t sure you should be reading a sequel, you probably won’t like it, just on principle. Anyway, good luck finishing it!

I saw that you've read the sequels. Are they worth reading? Do they have to do with Scarlett and Rhett? LOVE your blog by the way. Every seen was beautiful and the gifs and images are just as great. Thank you for the blog!!!

I liked Rhett Butler’s People, but it’s not really a sequel so much as a parallel (and before Rhett met Scarlett). The sequel Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley that picks up where GWTW left off; it has Scarlett trying to reconcile with Rhett and they end up in Ireland. Crazy things happen, and they both seem a bit out of character in my humble opinion. I don’t care for that book, mostly on principle because I love the inconclusive ending as Margaret Mitchell wrote it. If you are looking for a happier ending, you might like it though =)
