messrrjlupin asked: The Margaret Mitchell estate did, in fact authorize the sequel book/movie "Scarlett". They went through a process of studying the writing style of many authors, beginning in 1987. By 1988 there were 12 finalist candidates that it came down to before Alexandria Ripley was selected for the project and given 18 months to do research on the time period and give them the finished manuscript.
